After You Have an Extraction
- Bite down on the gauze we have given you for at least 45 minutes or until bleeding has ceased. Repeat as necessary.
- If bleeding continues, first try using a wet tea bag (non-herbal) as this contains tannic acid which is a natural coagulant and will help to cause a clot.
- The next day, rinse with warm salt water, approx. 1 teaspoon salt to ½ cup water. Swish for 60 seconds and do this 3-4 times daily for the next few days.
- Refrain from smoking, spitting, slurping, using a straw, or swishing for 24 hours after you have your extraction.
- Use a soft diet, medium hot, non spicy, and no carbonated drinks or citric acid juice until initial healing (usually 1-2 days). Examples such as soups, spaghetti, and soft sandwiches are good food choices.
- Use the prescribed pain meds and antibiotics as directed by Dr. Roth.
- Call our office if you have any concerns.
